Question #1:

How to smooth relationship when one spouse has changed? Older answerers, please?

My husband and I have been married for 10 years, and I have changed, very much for the better, according to my husband. I got off meds that were causing unrecognized behavioral side effects for years. Everyone who knows me is happy to have me back more like I was in my 20's. (I'm in my 40's now).

Ok, but in a way. . .. my husband ISN'T "happy to have me back," because this ISN'T back to how I used to be for HIM - he NEVER knew me like this. I'm smarter, more ambitious, and more even tempered. He knows I used to be a big time nerd, but I was so impaired by medications, I couldn't actually do many of my nerdy things. Well, now I can. And he is not a nerd. So he is subtly but regularly slamming my nerdy things (such as building a sub woofer or talking about Mars and doing nifty things on the computer and so on). He is frequently acting like an anti-intellectual, does that make sense?

I think part of the problem is my brain switched back on in the fall, and we don't have any shared activities in the winter, whereas in summer we go bass fishing and vegetable garden together. But gardening is 3 1/2 months away and bass fishing 4 months yet. . . and the arguments are no good!

The little slams that happen often are undermining our relationship. It's that mushy passive aggressive stuff that is hard to pick apart, not stuff where I can directly point out that he is insulting me. He claims he is happy that I am thinking sharper, but his actions clearly don't match what he says. And of course, these little slams are a total turn off for me, so then we are not fooling around as much as before, which leads to more slams, I suspect.

Any ideas how to smooth this along? Any good websites with tips on how to grow together and NOT apart? I am not so good at relationships, being that I am a typical nerd (ok, a female nerd!)

Question #2:

Why didnt the Bass bite?

I was fishing in this beautiful , 40+ year old park with tons of bass, beautiful green water and it had rocks and vegetation on the sides but the whole lake was clean, there is this bridge where you can see a bass there every 5 seconds, I saw over 20 bass there and a lot of blue gill, I cast my line out multiple times on both sides of the bridge, the bass saw it and just left I was using soft plastic worms, fishing it slow and sometimes letting it sink then come back up, the day before I threw a soft plastic on my first cast and caught a bass but today I could not cacth a thing, I threw a black buzzbait, nothing, spinner bait, nothing they just ignored it I was clueless and had no idea what else to do! I tried other spots but nothing what should I do next time?
All the bass were 2-7 ib and I was using good size lures.
They just watched or sometimes swam the opposite direction from where my worm was going to.

Question #3:

Which state comes to mind when you think best bass fishing state?

Just curious. After giving your answer, go to this link and see if it changes your mind-

@ Djbird- I think you're right. Florida and California both would have much bigger bass. But as far as numbers go, it is hard to beat Louisiana. They have held the bass masters classic in most states that have a fishery, and Louisiana has set bass master classic records, with the heaviest catch of fish that was ever caught in a classic.

That is a pretty good argument for the best bass fishing state in the nation.
@-cowboy- you're right about Florida being a great bass fishing state. We have always had good numbers of bass in Louisiana, but have just now started to get the faster growing Florida strain of bass in some of our waters.

70-100 bass a day can be caught when all the conditions are right and the bite is on.Our many other states can say that?
@ redheat- hope you enjoyed the mardi gras. Was it any good?
@ Ole fisherman- thanks for the kind words.I have heard the same about the bass fishing in your part of the world. It must be nice to have the waters to yourself, as far as bass fishing is concerned. And it's good to be back.
@ GMB- I must have ESP. I knew your answer before you even got on-line. But I'll have to admit. The next world record bass will most likely come from California.

Question #4:

How's the fishing in your area? And what type of fish are you targeting?

The weather has been in the mid 70's for the past few weeks and the bass are starting to turn on, and the crappie are on fire, in my area. Limits of crappie (50) are being caught by a lot of anglers and most are catching over 30 per trip. Slip corking and fishing the shallow flats seem to be the preferred method for the crappie. IT'S FISHING TIME!!!!!
@ F.A- That's tough man. Most of the hot summer I envy you snowbirds, but not during the winter.
@ X3- we have about the same fish in Louisiana- but over here we bow fish, net, or gig the huge gar fish.
@ Erik- Louisiana is my home state. Hunting season (bowhunting) ended Feb.1st and I don't fish during hunting season. But it has rained the last 3 days non-stop and I'm already getting cabin fever.
@ bear, when I was a young man, I dreamed of living in Alaska. Then one day a family that had been living there for a few years came and visited me. The showed me wonderful, beautiful pictures, in a slide show of their Alaskan life. Then I saw the picture that changed my mind. A FROZEN WATERFALL! I now just want to visit Alaska during the warmest part of the year. I'm a cold weather wimp.
@ P.T- Thank you! It's good to be back. It's been a long hard hunting season. I'm ready to start fishing.
@ wolf- that's a pretty dismal report. Lets hope things brighten up for you.
@ jonds- you gotta love it. Almost sounds like torture to me.

Question #5:

Do West Coast Calico Bass have a good flavor or are they strictly a catch & release fish?

I was looking up info on Calico Bass and wondered what type of fillet it gave up? Tasty? Is it a flaky fish when cooked or a steak/firm fillet? Any personal info would be helpful.

Just curious! They sound tasty and fun to catch.

Question #6:

Do you prefer to fish larger or smaller baits?

Sometimes I prefer to fish 1/4 oz crankbaits vs 1/2 oz because they seem to produce strikes a lot faster. Obviously because more fish can take them. I also manage to get some mean bass on them. I also do like my 1/2 oz, but I would rather get a few medium size bass and a lunker. Rather, then just one lunker.

Question #7:

Question #8:

Need some basic bass fishing tips?

So Ive started fishing my local canal (Miami FL) and ive caught a few bass, but not as much as i think i can get... I'm using a 4/0 offset hook with zoom black worms.. The canal is about 20ft wide and goes for miles and miles.. I like to cast a couple times in a spot then move on if i get nothing.. Should i stay put, working one spot or walk along the canal working the length of it? Also do bass like a fast retrieve, slow and steady, or slow jerk/stop, jerk stop... Worm on bottom? or worm with floater?

Do carp go after worms? Theres so nice size carp in the canal too, as well as catfish but i know catfish are bottom eaters..
Yeah I know more about saltwater though; new to freshwater.. Anyway I'm new to fishing in general, only started seriously last year so I've still got LOT'S to learn!

Question #9:

Just curious, (fishing)?

How many people here on this forum have tried calico bass fishing? I wanna get into it more just interested if anyone else has ever tried it. It's most abundant here in so cal but I suspect Florida to have it pretty abundant too because everything's good there. So anyone that has tried it any tips you guys can give me? Lure, bait, rod, reel, line selection? Gmb you had to try it atleast once it's like largemouth bass of saltwater

Question #10:

What type of line should I use? Fishing Big Bear lake?

I know they have trout, and I think bass...I don't know what other species they have, or what the average weight of these guys are, so I'm hoping someone will know for me. Do I use 4, 6, or 8 pound line? Also, does it matter if my pole is light, medium, or heavy action, as long as I have the right line?

Question #11:

What kind of fishing gear should I start with?

I've fished before, mostly fresh water from shore, docks, and canoe. I want to buy a rod and reel with some bait this weekend because I've wanted to go quite a few times over the summer. So I'm going to head down to Bass Pro but I need some guidance on what I should start with. They do have quite a large selection

Question #14:

What is the best shad imitation swimbait for striped bass fishing?

Question #15:

stocking a 1-2 acre pond what should i put?

well it may be possible that my dream might come true. Since the other guys in my house like to hunt and things like that they might be buying some land. This land has a small about 1-2 acre pond on it wich of course im going to try to put fish in if i can. For some reason this place has minnows crayfish and other forage food for bass but no game fish.... i do not know how they got there either.... im guessing from a nearby creek...
Any way back to the question, what would be the appropriate number to not make it so every cast i snag 30 fish but to where i can visit it and i hook a decent number every day..... i also do not want to strictly make it a bass pond since i fish a lake like that already.....
Edit: Gmb no the creek isn't really suitable for to much life. I would have to take a picture its more of a muddy puddle that's really long

Question #16:

Diet and workout regime to ensure 10% bf all yaer long?

Hi Guys/Gals...

I just got back from a competition (Bodybuilding-upper body contest), my first ever..Unfortunately, I was only informed about the comp a week I got into bulking diet..Hence, i had to cut back on food and train for the competition ..

Anyway, i have decided to try something out to ensure if i get any last minute calls for modelling/casting calls (which i do part time) or competition, I would not need to crash diet ..

I intend to keep my bodyfat at 10% all year long and atm i need to bulk ..

My carbs :Brown Rice, Occasional White rice, Potato, sweet potato, wholemeal Bread, Polenta, Wholemeal Pasta, and Oats

Protein : Chicken breast, fish -sea bass (twice a week), tuna , eggs (6 white and 1 yolk), whey, soy, fat free laughing cow cheese, legumes

fats : Nuts, almond butter, peanut butter, olive oil

To ensure i achieve 10% all year long, i thought of manipulating my daily calorie and 4 cardio sessions weekly, and ofcoure 6 days of weight training... somedays (days i workout my leg) high carb and somedays high fats but low carb and on daily basis, my protein is at least 150grams.

it has been a year and a half now and i rarely have eaten fast food or anything deemed "dirty". i was thinking to give a shot and see how my matabolism react to a weekly-once cheat meal. Should my bf is maintained, I want to try 2 cheat meals weekly. Need your opinion, people before I kick start the new journey.

I do not know any experts or fitness enthusiast to consult with and hence would love to hear some feedback.
my cheat meals are set on sundays where i will absolutely eat anything, which will exceed 1000 calories..

cheers.

**PS sorry if my ques posted here is too detailed and made you feel bored reading them all.
